In the fall of 1961 an opportunity to open a wild game meat processing plant was presented to Riley Howe.  After discussing the possibility with James Harvey, his brother-in-law and Louise Harvey, his mother-in-law they joined him as partners to open and begin processing deer in October.  They purchased a building that had been one of the first school houses in Monticello and turned it into a meat plant.  For many years the deer season lasted for two weeks with many people able to get three deer each (one regular tag and two specials, if desired).  Over the years many changes in the building and kinds of animals hunted, and being processed have occurred.  The 4 Point Meat Plant has been operating every year since 1961, and is now being run by a son and grandchildren of Riley.
